A six-storey, 40,000sqm post-tensioned concrete frame for one of the UK's leading heart and lung treatment centres, including an oval structure, twin atria and a waterproof basement.

Whelan and Grant delivered the full concrete frame for Royal Papworth Hospital, now one of the UK's foremost heart and lung treatment and transplant centres.
The six-storey, 40,000sqm post-tensioned structure houses 300 beds and features an oval form from levels two to six, with twin atria flanking the main core.
Below, traditionally reinforced slabs and columns from ground to level two accommodate plant facilities and circulation spaces.
A waterproof concrete basement provides back-of-house functions, while a separate two-storey RC framed energy centre was also delivered as part of the package.
