A technically demanding 5,500sqm university extension where exposed fine smooth concrete drove both the architectural identity and the building's heating and cooling strategy.

The 5,500sqm extension to University of Cambridge Judge Business School was technically demanding from the outset.
Exposed fine smooth finished concrete is the defining architectural material throughout, appearing in the open atrium staircase, lecture theatre coffers, feature entrance walls and soffits, and a series of bespoke cast-in elements.
Running the full height of the five-storey building, the concrete coffers do more than look the part: their increased thermal mass plays an active role in the building's heating and cooling strategy.
